Back Up Care
FAQ
Can I request a specific nanny? Yes! Members get priority for repeat requests.
Is backup childcare through an agency tax-deductible? Yes, in many cases. Because Nurturing Nannies is the legal employer of your caregiver, we provide professional receipts containing our Employer Identification Number (EIN). This allows most families to easily utilize the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit or apply funds from a Dependent Care FSA. We handle the employment paperwork so you can maximize your childcare benefits hassle-free.
Do I pay the nanny directly at the end of the sit? No. To keep things simple and professional, all payments are handled securely through the agency via your payment method on file. You never have to worry about having cash on hand. While tips are a kind gesture for exceptional service, they are never required.
What qualifications do your backup nannies have? Every caregiver at Nurturing Nannies is an agency-employed professional, not an independent contractor. To ensure the highest level of safety for your family, every sitter must pass our rigorous 12-step vetting process.

This comprehensive screening includes multi-state background checks, professional reference verification, and a mandatory CPR & First Aid certification. Our team is specifically trained to provide safe, engaging childcare in the Twin Cities that goes far beyond just "babysitting", giving you total peace of mind.
What does the $188 registration fee cover? This one-time, non-refundable fee covers your formal onboarding, the comprehensive 12-step vetting of our staff, and the creation of your customized Family Binder.
Where do you provide backup childcare in Minnesota? We primarily serve the Twin Cities Metro and Central Minnesota areas (including Minneapolis, St. Paul, Edina, Eden Prairie, Woodbury, Maple Grove, Plymouth, Wayzata, Minnetonka, Eagan, Inver Grove Heights, Cottage Grove, and Lakeville). However, we offer professional backup care state-wide. For families outside the immediate metro area, we recommend booking in advance to ensure we can secure a nanny in your specific location, travel fees may apply for out of region sits.
How much notice is needed for a last-minute nanny request? While we have a high success rate of placing a nanny within 24 hours, we prefer at least 48 hours' notice whenever possible. The more lead time we have, the better we can ensure a perfect match. Please note that our Unlimited and Date Night members always receive priority placement for all requests.
What are the hourly minimums for childcare bookings? To ensure our professional nannies can commit to your family, we have a 3-hour minimum for standard daytime sits. A 4-hour minimum applies to Friday and Saturday evenings, holidays, and all hotel or guest bookings.
Do you provide sick care for children? Yes. We provide sick care with agency approval for an additional $8/hour surcharge. We prioritize the health of our caregivers, so the nanny must agree to the care in advance based on the symptoms disclosed.
Can one nanny care for more than two children? Absolutely. We can accommodate larger families. However, hourly surcharges apply for 3 or more children ($4-$6/hr). For the safety of the children, a second nanny is required for groups of five or more.
