Nurturing Nannies Requirements for Families
What to Expect When Working With Our Agency
To ensure a respectful, safe, and lasting partnership, all families who work with us must meet the following standards.

Family Compatibility & Expectations
We believe strong placements begin with alignment.
-
All families must complete our Family Core Values Assessment to ensure the best match.
-
We collaborate with you to define a clear schedule, care plan, and household expectations.
-
Open communication, mutual respect, and honoring boundaries are essential for success.
-
Families must foster a values-aligned relationship with their nanny that promotes consistency, safety, and trust.
-
Families must inform us within 24 hours if they wish to move forward with a candidate, as top-tier nannies are quickly hired by other families.
Readiness & Employment Standards
While Nurturing Nannies is the legal employer, families must:
-
Commit to a consistent schedule with guaranteed hours
-
Honor a minimum of two weeks paid time off, two personal days, paid holidays (minimum of 6 - New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day; families may offer more), and overtime pay for any hours worked over 40/week.
-
If the nanny is required to work on a designated holiday and agrees to it, they must be compensated double their hourly rate, for those days/hours.
-
-
Any unused PTO, sick days, or personal days must be paid out at the end of each calendar year, as part of our commitment to ethical employment practices and nanny retention.
-
Offer paid sick time in accordance with Minnesota state law (1 hour per 30 hours worked, max 48 hours/year)
-
Reimburse mileage for all work-related driving (2025 rate is $0.70/mile)
-
Respect the nanny’s on/off-duty boundaries.
-
Cover any increase in car insurance your nanny incurs to drive children, if applicable (typically $6–$12/month)

-
Coordinate all schedule changes or travel requests in advance with the agency
-
3 - 5+%, end of term Raise, based on performance and evolving responsibilities.
-
Highly recommend you consider offering a monthly healthcare stipend (optional, but strongly encouraged to support your nanny’s well-being)
-
Holiday Bonus: While not required, it’s customary and highly recommended to offer your nanny a year-end bonus (typically equivalent to 1–2 weeks’ pay) as a gesture of appreciation for their dedication and hard work throughout the year.
Home Environment & Safety

We require a safe and respectful work environment:
-
All adults (18+) living in the household must pass a background check
-
Emergency plans and sick child protocols must be established and shared (we help you with this)
-
For live-in roles, private accommodations must be provided
-
We help families outline household rules and expectations to ensure clarity and comfort
-
Must fill out our the information form for your Family Binder and return to within one week of your nanny's start date.

Professionalism & Partnership
We work with families who value fairness, professionalism, and ethical treatment of caregivers.
-
Nannies are hired for child-focused care only. Additional duties must be pre-approved and reflected in the care plan. To view a full list of the different childcare roles and the expectations click HERE.
-
Families may not hire, solicit, or refer caregivers directly outside of the agency agreement.
-
All feedback or concerns about a nanny should be addressed through the agency, not directly with the caregiver.
We reserve the right to decline, pause, or discontinue service if a family’s behavior, compensation, or communication falls short of our agency standards or best practices in the nanny profession.
